FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

HOW ARE YOU AFFILIATED WITH THE PASTOR LEE AND JUSARANG COMMUNITY CHURCH?

In search for a story, the Kindred Team set out for Seoul, South Korea in December of 2011 with the intention of making a documentary about Pastor Lee and his “drop box.”  What they found while sleeping on the floor of the orphanage, and capturing footage of a man’s love for his natural and adopted children, was much more than a story...

Now, Kindred Image is committed to implementing programs to protect vulnerable children, help mothers in crisis, organize volunteer efforts, coordinate prayer, and share Pastor Lee’s story of hope with anyone who will listen. Working directly with Pastor Lee on the ground in Seoul, South Korea, we seek to expand his efforts to serve and support more mothers and children. If the building of “the drop box” was Pastor Lee’s desperate act of compassion, where he jumped into the river to save drowning lives, Kindred Image is Pastor Lee’s hopeful act of justice, where he now walks upstream to the source of the problem.

DO YOU SUPPORT MORE BABY BOXES BEING BUILT?

Bottom line, our heart is to serve and support mothers and children. We do not use donations to open more baby boxes - we desire to see a world that doesn't need them. This issue is more complex than a baby box so the solution is complex as well. In South Korea, we currently have programs supporting the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of mothers and children and whenever safe and possible we desire for each child to stay with their biological family or go through the proper adoption process.  However, we do understand that in dire situations, Pastor Lee's baby box may be the only way to save a child and/or a mother's life.

WHERE DOES MY MONEY GO?

Your money helps support Kindred’s programs and campaigns to protect the lives of vulnerable infants, counsel and support mothers, and empower children with disabilities to live a full and purposeful life.

In Korea, your gift provides the necessities and medical support for the abandoned children in Pastor Lee’s care, sends staff members to the front lines where lives hang in the balance, and produces relevant media content that will keep the public aware and invested in the lives of the least of these. Looking ahead, Kindred is also working toward a new holistic care facility and the creation of a nationwide adoption grant program for families in Korea looking to adopt children with special-needs. A small portion of your donation supports our general operations in the states. To view our annual report, click here!

WHEN WILL KINDRED'S FEATURE FILM "THE DROP BOX" FILM BE RELEASED?

HOW CAN I VOLUNTEER?

We are currently praying through ways to connect volunteers with our work on the ground in South Korea, and ensure that our volunteers will have a rewarding experience that makes real impact in the lives of the least of these. It is a blessing that Pastor Lee's home currently receives great volunteer support from those in their community.

ARE THE BABIES AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION?

Kindred firmly believes in keeping families together. Whenever safe and possible, Kindred works to provide mothers with the resources and support necessary to keep their child.

At the same time, adoption is a vital measure of protection and compassion. Looking ahead, Kindred is working toward creating a nationwide adoption grant program for families in Korea looking to adopt children who were dropped in the box, as well as children with special-needs.

Due to the high rate of recent “drop offs” at Pastor Lee’s home, he is no longer looking to guard or adopt children coming in through his “drop box.” However, all of the "drop box children” are taken to childcare centers in South Korea, and are by law, kept from being adopted internationally. If adoption is on your heart, we encourage you to look into an adoption agency in your area first, and then explore international options elsewhere.

CAN I SEND PHYSICAL DONATIONS?

Due to the unique needs of Pastor Lee’s family, it is difficult to send specific items at this time. As Kindred is in constant communication with the family regarding immediate needs, the best way to support Pastor Lee and his work is through a financial gift.

Kindred Image is dedicated to transparent and responsible stewardship practices, and works on the frontlines in order to ensure responsible spending of resources, and facilitate the greatest impact possible in the lives of mothers and children.
